demonstrations

sitting on my balcony now.

beirut is so quiet. so quiet on a saturday night.

beirut is so so quiet.

we participated in two demonstrations today.

the first was for mothers/women against the war. we demanded that the Israeli army stop killing our children by calling for a ceasefire immediately. that took place in front of the UN building. there were about 25 people. that is a lot considering how people are so scared today. we wore white

the second was in martyr's square. it was a silent vigil to mourn all the children who killed the last 11 days. we held cards up with their names and ages. it was silent, we wore black.

i am getting tired of eating pasta every day. it's the only thing i know how to cook. so today my husband and i made popcorn for lunch.

I am writing to all my friends asking them to email my messages to their friends. The world needs to know. I take snips from your blog. South Australian official TV chain snipped through what I said to them. Still they aired a powerfull plea. Keep writing. I will.

If the Arabs put down their weapons today there would be no more violence.

If the Jews put down their weapons today there would be no more Israel.

Hi Zena:
I saw your spot on CNN this morning and was both moved and angered by what was seen - but perhaps not for the reasons that one might initially consider. While I am outraged by the hit on the Qana building, I am far more angered by the activities of Hezbolah for their use of innocents as bodyarmour and shields. And yet you blame Israel and the IDF for this tragedy, with no blame to Hezbolah for their role. Something is just not right in this scenario. Terror begets terror and as long as this madness is allowed to continue - and here, I am referring to the Lebanese allowing Hezbolah to hide behind civilians showing their true colors - yellow for cowardice - the killing of innocents will continue and the gravesites will grow the sad flowers that gravesites always do grow. We saw your spot on CNN this morning. Thank you for your true view of what is going on in Lebanon. My husband is a Lebanese American and of course we are very concerned for his beautiful homeland and his family still there.
I will forward your site to all I know. Too many americans are totally blind to what is happening other than what is told to them by the media and by our misguided president. God bless you and keep you safe. Susan, Fl, USA

I am writing you from Boston, USA. I just heard your comments on a CNN telephone interview you made. I lived in Lebanon in 2002. I have many friends there in Beirut. Just wanted you to know that I am on the side of all Lebanese.
Please visit my Lebanese photo gallery. You may use any photo that you like; I only request that you credit any photo to me.

I am an american citizen, I don't like what is happening over there eithier but your hazbela terroist are running your country, as long as you put up with the terroist and let them run your country you will probably have to put up with getting bombed. another thing I would like to know is why every time you people get into a war it is America's fault I am sick and tired of hearing death to America,
So I say death to you too.

Assalamoalaukum Zena, How ironical that I found out about beirut update via CNN. I hope this madness ends soon. Innocent people are getting killed regardless of debate about who's loading the gun or firing the bullet. There was a anti-Israeli rally in London today where Tony Benn, a very respected Ex. Labour MP said "What we are witnessing is a war crime committed by Israel with the support of the American and the British governments - that is the truth."
He claimed the US and Israel had been planning the attack on Lebanon for "months if not years" as part of what he claimed was a long-term strategy to rebuild the Middle East on their terms.

That seems very true going by the events of the past few days.

Believe me, I know how you are, and feel. In 1978, the United States Government made impossible my marriage of 18 years, broke up my family, destroyed me business, and took steps to assure that I would never be gainfully employed again. In 1985, when I had recovered and remarried, they did it all again, this time driving my teenage son to three attempts at suicide. Today, although I have never committed a crime (never even been charged with one) I am basically a fugitive. I've written a book about it, and my website is www.judoknighterrant.com

I am so glad that you are still OK. We are very worried here, my husband knew the UN post that was destroyed very well - he was there in 1980/81. He is adamant the Israelis destroyed it because they will invade. I hope very much he is wrong. Keep safe. With love to you all

I forgot to add Inter Press news service site for Jim Lobe's column.

His beat is whose in/out in US foreign policy circles.

Tells you in other articles what all the "plans", coordinated US/Israeli policy are...

And this analysis of US/Israeli lobby integration in US foreign policy from U of Chicago political scientist.

http://mearsheimer.uchicago.edu/pdfs/A0040.pdf

This article made me want to go from "emotional" to tactical; how to change, present, air alternative views in the US media.

Any ideas?

I have been distressed this whole period watching what little coverage I can find.
